University Lecturer in Social Work for Coordination of Practicum Education and Teaching

The Department of Social Work is located within the Faculty of Social Sciences at Uppsala University. About 35 people work at the department, most of whom are professors, lecturers, and doctoral students. The department is responsible for the social work program, master's programs, doctoral education, and research in social work. The department is in an expansive phase and therefore needs to recruit a university lecturer. This position is based in Uppsala.

Social work is both a professional practice and the scientific discipline that constitutes the knowledge base for social workers. The social work program is a generalist education that provides broad knowledge in social work as well as scientific theory and methodology. The studies aim to educate social workers with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to work within the field of social work practice. An important part of the social work program is the personal and professional development (PPU), which is a process-oriented component focusing on skill training for social work practice, as well as the practicum education (VFU) where students observe and participate in practical social work. Concepts such as human, well-being, social welfare, help and support, and life contexts are central to the education, and a holistic view of the human being is emphasized.

The department is now seeking a university lecturer who, with great commitment and broad experience from the field of social work, can coordinate the professional courses of the social work program, PPU, and VFU. In addition, teaching is included, primarily in the program's professional courses. The main location for this position is Uppsala.

Responsibilities

As a university lecturer in social work with a particular focus on the PPU and VFU courses of the social work program, you will be responsible for coordinating PPU courses, coordinating VFU placements, as well as teaching, assessment, and administration together with other staff.

Teaching is primarily at the undergraduate and advanced levels, but teaching in commissioned education may occur. Teaching also includes course administration and course development as well as supervision.

As a university lecturer responsible for coordinating VFU, you will act as a support for the organization in matters related to supervision and planning of VFU. You will collaborate with the course responsible for VFU and be part of the department's teaching staff.

In the role of VFU coordinator, your tasks will include:

• Identifying new placements for students' VFU and formalizing agreements around these placements.
• Representing Uppsala University in matters related to practicum education, in consultation with the Faculty of Social Sciences, study directors, course leaders, as well as municipalities and regions.
• Leading the coordination and planning of practicum education.
• Participating in information initiatives for municipalities and regions, following up and evaluating VFU, preparing materials for decisions in various bodies, and communicating with students. Additionally, other administrative tasks are included, such as working in various study administrative systems related to VFU.

Qualifications

• Degree in social work or equivalent competence deemed equivalent by the employer.
• Documented pedagogical skills in education in social work or equivalent field.
• Experience working in the social work profession and subject depth that entails good knowledge of social workers' fields of work within society and collaboration.
• The applicant must also have been active in teaching in the social work program.
• The applicant must have a very good ability to express themselves in Swedish, both orally and in writing.

Great importance will be attached to personal suitability, such as the applicant demonstrating independence, being structured, service-oriented, and having a strategic working method. Very good collaboration and initiative skills are required.

Desirable/Meritorious

• Experience supervising students during practicum education and/or responsibility for VFU courses.
• Experience in course development and examination.
• Completed basic course in higher education pedagogy.
• Familiarity with the Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and experience with learning platforms such as Canvas.
